AED Foundation - News Articles AED British Columbia and AED Ontario Local Group Chapters Receive AED Founders Award The local equipment distributor group chapters in British Columbia and Ontario have both been recognized with the 2011 Founders Awards. Each year, AED local groups compete for the honor, which is based on outstanding leadership and contributions to AED and the equipment industry. This includes but is not limited to public policy efforts, PAC activities, workforce development, student scholarships, industry task forces, membership strategies, and other local group events. This year, given the outstanding contributions of both these local groups, it was impossible to select a single winner. The AED Chapter in British Columbia participates in legislative activities through affiliation with the Roadbuilders and Aggregate Producers Association of B.C. They also stay informed as to industry issues and concerns through industry and civic government speakers at group meetings. This chapter has grown to a total of 49 members, including 25 distributors; with 7 new members in the past year. Philanthropy and industry support are emphasized through initiatives such as participation in the Surrey Food Bank and "Tiny Bundles" program. Eight colleges and schools with diesel technology programs are supported. There is also time for members to just relax and socialize through such activities as a Christmas lunch and auction, casino and racetrack event, and golf event. The AED Chapter in Ontario supports several efforts that benefit the industry. They support a scholarship program for heavy equipment students at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough, Ontario, as well as a unique heavy equipment program at Bear Creek Secondary School. There is also a heavy equipment industry position that they help to fund that is focused on providing awareness and education to potential students and future industry employees. Through chapter meetings, the group is involved with industry issues, hearing from such organizations as the Ontario Trucking Association and the Department of Transport Construction. Add to that such fun activities as an Annual Golf Tournament (which also is a fundraiser), and their Power Breakfast series, and you have a vital local group that is an asset to our industry. AED and The AED Foundation congratulate the Ontario and British Columbia groups and encourage all local groups to apply and compete for the 2012 Founders Award. For more information, please contact Ben Yates at (630) 468-5130, byates@aednet.org. If you are not participating in a local group, we strongly encourage you to do so and support your industry. Through the collective action of equipment dealers in North America, much can be accomplished. Please visit AED’s Web site for information about Local Groups and contact information.
