Samoter 2011 Will Focus on Sustainable Construction and Emerging Markets

The 28th edition of Samoter -- the triennial International Exhibition of Earth-moving and Construction Machinery (2-6 March 2011 at VeronaFiere in Verona, Italy) -- will focus on sustainability.

Samoter’s inaugural conference, "Sustainable Design & Construction: Explorations in Trends and Best Practices," will present, through a roundtable format, international approaches to sustainability through sessions comparing the North American and European markets. The event will highlight key concepts in the sustainable building industry by focusing on an integrated approach to design and construction, through the presentation of "case studies" illustrating various international applications and experiences.

Through the selection of this theme, Samoter hopes to provide an opportunity to create awareness and to offer training as well as in-depth analysis of all aspects of sustainability: safety and attention to building processes; the relationship between the environment and the economy; standards and laws for construction sites; products and tools; and ethics and design.

Data recently released by the CECE (the Committee for European Construction Equipment) confirmed Italy as the most important European market for construction equipment in 2009, ahead of Germany and France, with a value of just under three billion Euro (about $3.8B). According to the CECE, Italy is expected to retain this leadership position in 2010, cementing its importance as a construction equipment market within Europe.

In addition, Samoter 2011 will look to emerging markets: the Balkans, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Central Asia and the Far East are the primary geographical targets that will be reached by Samoter’s communications strategy for the 2011 show. Exhibitors interested in these markets will find Samoter to be a useful source of business contacts. Moreover, Samoter will be present at all the most important international trade shows in the construction sector - traveling to about 50 countries in all.

Other important events at Samoter 2011 will include the International Award and the Innovation Competition. Since 1973, the Samoter International Award has been presented, in conjunction with the show, for distinction in the development and success of building and construction site activity on a national and international scale. The international winner in 2008 was the country of Panama for the canal-widening project.

Exhibiting companies that offer, during Samoter, previews of the construction-related and functional innovations introduced in their production are eligible for the Samoter Innovation Competition. This important initiative rewards innovative investments and provides members of the construction sector with detailed information on technical, construction-related, and functional developments affecting various aspects of site operations. The award is presented in recognition of innovation and/or improvements in the following areas: energy savings, productivity, ergonomics, safety of use, and other aspects that add value to existing products. Starting in 2011 -- the 20th anniversary of this competition -- sustainability will be added as a new area of recognition for the Samoter Innovation Competition.

The 2011 edition will once again feature SAMOTER SPECIALS: thematic approaches dedicated to individual trade sectors such as earthmoving, concrete, roadbuilding, drilling, crushing, hoisting, vehicles and components. Every sector will be specifically differentiated in graphic terms on the show floor, using symbols and colors, to facilitate recognition and to help visitors and exhibitors identify points of interest. These itineraries will be complemented by theme days dedicated to each sector, featuring demos, seminars and conferences.
