Turn Up the Volume! House, Senate Highway Conferees to Meet This Week

The first meeting of House and Senate highway conferees is scheduled for May 8.  With real work on the final version of a highway bill set to begin, AED is urging the construction equipment industry to keep up the chorus for a new bill.

House and Senate leaders tasked conferees last month with developing the terms of a final surface transportation reauthorization bill. While behind the scenes work has occupied lawmakers and staff for the past few weeks, the first public meeting to reconcile the Senate’s bill, MAP-21 (S. 1813), with H.R. 4248, the short-term highway program extension passed by the House, is just around the corner.

"After years of working toward a new highway bill, there may finally be light at the end of the tunnel," said AED President and CEO Toby Mack. "Now, more than ever, it is critical that the construction equipment industry keep up the beat for support."

Visit AEDaction.org and tell your lawmakers you want a highway bill now!

While it is important that all lawmakers hear about the importance of the bill to keep the momentum going, it is essential, says Mack, that the House and Senate conferees hear from their constituents about the measure’s significance.

Support is desperately needed from equipment dealers and manufacturers in the states listed below. Reach out to these conferees using AEDaction.org or call your lawmakers at (202) 224-3121 and tell them, as a business owner and employer in their state, what a new highway bill means to your ability to put America back to work.
