Texas Senate Candidate Dewhurst Visits Vermeer of Texas HQ
On June 12, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst of Texas, a Republican candidate for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat, toured Vermeer Texas-Louisiana’s Irving, Texas, facility to meet with employees and discuss economic policy issues.
Facility visits from candidates and elected officials offer an excellent opportunity to engage current policymakers and future leaders. Such visits let them seefirsthand your company’s value and provide an opportunity for them to interact with their constituents – your employees.
Visits from candidates and elected officials can also offer your company an added bonus: free publicity. Dewhurst’s visit to Vermeer Texas-Louisiana was covered by a local television station. This type of positive coverage solidifies your company’s reputation as an important employer and engaged corporate citizen.
Dewhurst’s visit comes in the midst of a tight Republican primary race for the seat of retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R). Having advanced to the runoff round of the primary, Dewhurst will face former state solicitor general Ted Cruz on July 31.
All AED members are encouraged to explore these types of visits from political candidates this season. Face-to-face interaction helps politicians understand the needs of industry and see the impact of federal policies.
