Ohio Governor Tightens Fracking Requirements

Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich has signed legisation that toughens requirements for hydraulic fracturing of shale to produce natural gas.

The new law builds on well-construction standards by requiring well operators to:

Share all chemical information, including trade secret formulas, with certain medical professionals
Sample water within 1,500 feet of a proposed horizontal well
Disclose the proposed source of water used in the well drilling and completion process

Also, well operators who violate safety and environmental regulations are subject to mandatory daily fines.
