Canada's Construction Sector Council Forms Planning Committee to Develop New Governance Structure
The Construction Sector Council (CSC) will no longer be funded through the Sector Council Program after March 2013, and this has raised some concerns about the Labor Market Information Program. Since receiving this news, the CSC has been working to find a more sustainable model to ensure it can continue to provide Labor Market Information and other services to the construction industry. Some milestones toward that goal have been achieved:
-
Many of our industry stakeholders have communicated their concern about the loss of the CSC’s LMI Program to various government representatives.
-
The CSC has formed a Planning Committee comprised of national industry organizations to help develop a new governance structure.
-
A Terms of Reference for the new governance structure has been developed and agreed to at the Planning Committee level.
-
The Planning Committee is consulting with their constituencies to gain a commitment to form the new Board of Directors and to financially contribute to the operation of the new governance structure. Several positive responses have been received.
-
The CSC Board of Directors has passed a motion to transition to the new governance structure.
The Federal Government will be launching a new Grants and Contributions Program and CSC is preparing to respond to a call for concepts to develop labour market information for the Canadian construction industry. In the meantime SCC continues to work on the 2013 LMI forecast with an anticipated delivery date in January 2013.
