AED Card Check Action Center The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA or "card check") seemed to be dead just a couple of months ago. However, with liberal interest groups spending millions of dollars on advertising and big labor pressuring moderate Democrats, EFCA is once again popping up on Capitol Hill.
The good news is that it appears that EFCA's "card check" provision will be dropped from the new version of EFCA. Card check would have replaced the secret ballot in union organizing elections with a scheme that allows a union to organize if a majority of workers simply sign a card. However, word on the Hill is that card check could be replaced with provisions permitting greater union access to the workplace, quick elections (also known as "ambush elections"), and mail ballots. Combine these new proposals with EFCA's controversial binding arbitration provision that would permit a government arbitrator to impose a two-year collective bargaining agreement on employers and employees (regardless of whether either party consents) and EFCA is as bad, if not worse, than it was with the card check provision. The labor unions are powerful and committed to pushing EFCA into law sooner rather than later. YOU are the key to stopping EFCA. Members of Congress on both sides of the aisle woke up to the fact that card check was a bad idea after hearing from employers and employees across the country. It is time to let Congress know that an EFCA compromise is also a misguided proposal. Use the resources below to tell them to vote against EFCA:
